December 2010 Newsletter

Happy Holidays!

Wow, what a year! I can't believe it's almost over! 2010 has been filled with both wonderful and trying moments...but we made it through! I had a very successful year in the belly dance realm--I attended top notch workshops, rebranded my website, and directed a fantastic student troupe.

As I drink hot cocoa and look out at the snow falling, I feel all warm and optimistic about the holiday season and the year to come. My goals for 2011 are to continue rocking out with my student troupe (directing and choreographing pieces), mastering sagat (finger symbols), and working on Egyptian technique, especially the Baladi and Modern Cairo styles. Do you have any belly dance goals for the year? If so, share them here.

And if you're looking for something fun and belly dance related to do this season, I've put together a list of local holiday events on my blog.

Beginner Belly Dance Classes Winter 2011

Shake off those winter blues with a fun and body warming belly dance workout. Learn traditional Middle Eastern dance movements that have been passed down for generations in this entry-level class. Beginning belly dance is about learning how to connect with your body and spirit. Suitable for all shapes, sizes and activity levels, but you will get a work out! This class will focus on improving flexibility, conditioning the body in order to do the movements properly, and building stamina. You will learn basic belly dance techniques that focus on the core aspects of the dance. Wear comfortable clothes. Pants or shorts are preferred as we may stretch on the floor. Bring water. Dance shoes and hip scarves are optional.

Join the Nightingales

Audition slots still available in Dec.

It's not too late to become a Nightingale! I am currently auditioning dancers for my student troupe, the Nightingales. The troupe performs at local events and is a great opportunity to gain performance experience. Auditions are open to anyone, but would be best for those at an advanced beginner to intermediate level. Weekly rehearsals are every Wednesday night from 7-8p. Please contact me for details or visit: andaleedance.com/join-andalees-student-troupe.
