The Dream Camp Experience!

I can’t believe it has been about a month since I returned from Aziza’s Dream Camp. Dream Camp is a week-long belly dance intensive situated in the beautiful countryside in Quebec, Canada. This year, Aziza brought in Bozenka, making this the year to do it. Aziza and Bozenka are two of my favorite contemporary belly dancers. It was a dream come true! There is nothing better than escaping to a beautiful place with amazing women studying this incredible art form. It’s just incredible! Over the course of the week, we laughed, we...

Student Hafla Photos

It’s been about a month since the Student Hafla and Launch Party for Carolina Belly Dance, so I am a little late in getting these pictures up. Better late than never, you know! Without further ado, here are the pictures taken by my student, Elizabeth, and our professional photographer of the evening, Bonnie Stanley of The Intimate Lens Photography. You can also find more pictures on Facebook here and here. Note: Watermarked images are copyrighted and property of Bonnie Stanley Photography. Do not download these photos. Contact me...

CarolinaBellyDance.org is now live!

I am pleased to announce the launch of Carolina Belly Dance! This is a brand-new belly dance directory that utilizes user-generated content to share belly dance information throughout North and South Carolina. And it’s completely free! Carolina Belly Dance uses a regional model to group classes, events and performers, so that when you visit the page, you can see classes in your area right away. I invite you to visit the site and check it out…and please post your listings and performer/teacher profile. When Haala of Cary closed...

Andalee’s Student Hafla and Carolina Belly Dance launch party

I am pleased to announce that I will be holding another student hafla on May 17, 2014. I can’t believe it has been two years since my last student hafla! The night will feature a mix of soloists and group performers. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome!  Not only will this be a great performance opportunity for students and their teachers, it will also serve as the launch party for Carolina Belly Dance (still under construction). Since losing the valuable NCBellyDance.org resource, I decided to work on a new site that...

New Year’s performance with Seher

I can’t believe it has been almost two months since the World in Motion New Year’s Gala show! I have been meaning to write about this for awhile, but with the new site design, a new job and some other projects going on, it has been a busy 2014. Anyway, here are some pictures and a video from the performance I did with Seher to Ana Bastannak. Aren’t we adorable?...

I met Karim Nagi!

I met Karim Nagi!

Last weekend, I got to meet a belly dance instructor and drumming maestro, Karim Nagi. Karim Nagi is an Egyptian musician, composer, music arranger and DJ (and he even has his own Wikipedia page!). I had heard that he was a wonderful instructor from other dancers who have studied with him, and I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to study with him. I almost didn’t make it because I found out about the workshop weekend on Saturday. I dropped all of my plans on Sunday and drove to Daliana’s dance studio in Greensboro,...

Welcome to the new site!

Welcome to the new site!

What do you think of my new digs? Pretty sweet right. I am super proud to launch the new AndaleeDance.com! It’s been about 4 years since my last site upgrade and it was feeling pretty stale. This new website uses responsive design and the latest trends in WordPress website development. And I did it all myself! Ok, so I had a little help from my husband and the great team at Elegant Themes, but I did most of it myself. I am still working on tweaking a few things and there may be errors floating around the site that I haven’t seen...

New belly dance classes starting in 2014

After taking a six month hiatus from teaching, I am back and ready to teach belly dance classes again! I’ll be back at the Five Oaks Clubhouse in southwest Durham near Chapel Hill. I’ll be offering two levels, a beginning belly dance class and a continuing class for those who have at least one year of belly dance experience. Find all of the class information here and I hope to see you shimmying real...

New photo shoot

New photo shoot

It has been over a year since my last belly dance photo shoot, so I knew I was long over due. I like to get a professional photo shoot done at least once a year to document what I truly look like as a belly dancer. Let’s face it, nothing is worse than false advertising. I mean, have you ever thought someone looked one way only to find them looking 10 years older when you meet them in person (online dating comes to mind!)? I also love my costumes and I love to photograph all of my costumes for posterity’s sake. I recently cut my...

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

It’s a little obvious that I’ve been laying low in the dance world over the past year. I am getting back to my normal self and slowly making a dance comeback. Lately that has meant practicing with one of my best dance friends, Seher. We get together about once a week to work on belly dance videos and technique. It has been so fun and inspiring. Then, we found out about the Halloween RAQS! event and we just had to do something for it. So we put our dance videos aside and started choreographing. We decided to be ghosts and danced to...
