New Promotional Photos

I desperately needed some new promo images to show off some new costumes and my current look. I decided to give photography a try myself because I love taking pictures. I set up a photo studio in my living room and used a camera remote to take the pictures.  I consider these the ultimate selfies! They’re not perfect (the white balance is off on some of them), but they’ll do for now. What do you...

Oasis at Beer Durham in June

I was delighted to be asked to perform at the June 18 Oasis event at Beer Durham. Beer Durham is a craft beer store in downtown Durham and monthly belly dance events are currently being organized by Sonya. I was one of four dancers that night–Natalie, Sonya and Emily being the other dancers. There was a great crowd and everyone had a great time! It’s a great new venue for dancers who want to perform in an intimate environment. It’s a monthly event that happens the third Thursday of each month Thanks to Josh Edwards for the photos!...

Geektastic Belly Dance Show Student Performance

I was honored to perform with my students at the Geektastic show in Durham on April 18. Here is a description of the piece from the program so that you know what is going on here: “The Queen Who Would be King” – Andalee is a professional belly dancer based in Durham, NC. She is joined by students Alex, Heather and Mariel. Her piece tonight is inspired by her recent trip to Egypt. It tells the story of Hatshepsut, one of the few female pharaohs who rose to power after taking over the throne from her stepson, Thutmose III....

My Trip to Egypt

My Trip to Egypt

I can’t believe it has been two months since I went to Egypt . I was lucky enough to be able to go on a family vacation with my husband and his parents and of course I fit in as much belly dancing as I could! I went a few days ahead of the rest and stayed at Yasmina of Cairo’s Belly Dancers B&B. It was a lovely experience, something I highly recommend. If you want to go to Egypt, but don’t want to be alone, check out Yasmina. The rates are affordable, the food is delicious and there’s a dance studio in her...

Photos from Beer Durham

Right after I came back from Egypt, local dancer, Sonya, asked me to perform at Beer Durham, a new craft beer store in Downtown Durham on February 5. I was one of three dancers that night–Sonya and Cristina being the other two dancers. There was a great crowd despite the cold! It’s a great new venue for dancers who want to perform in an intimate environment and I am excited that it has become a monthly thing! Check out this listing to find out when the next event will be (click on “show recurrences”). Thanks to Karl...

Jewelry liquidation sale

OK, so I know this isn’t belly dance, but it is tangentially related. When I started blogging, I included information and updates about all of my hobbies–one of which is making jewelry. However, since I started making costumes, that has pretty much eaten up my jewelry time. I decided to call it quits in the jewelry making department, except for jewelry for my costumes! LOL. 😉 Current pieces will go first and then the supplies. For now, I am offering 50% off of my entire collection from Etsy until the end of the year. Use coupon...

Choosing your first pair of finger cymbals (zills)

Choosing your first pair of finger cymbals (zills)

My continuing belly dance students are currently learning a fun choreography with finger cymbals. For many of the students in the class, this is the first time that they have ever tried finger cymbals. Finger cymbals are really hard to play because they are musical instruments that you wear and play–all while belly dancing! I started putting together materials for the class and I thought a quick video would be helpful. Then I decided it may be helpful to lots of other students out there so I made it a little more polished and posted a...
